Chapter Highlights for My Life, My Body: Sex Ed Made Easy - Private Parts
Welcome to the next blog in the series - Chapter Highlights for My Life, My Body: Sex Ed Made Easy. This blog is about the fourth chapter - Private Parts.
While this is a brief chapter in the eBook, it is still an important one. Why is this a brief chapter when it is such an important area of education that is needed?
Because the chapter, Private Parts is introducing the concept of private parts. It isn’t about going into detail of how private parts work, that comes later in the eBook. The concept of private parts for both children and adults is about setting the boundary for body safety. Body safety is so important and should be taught from as early as possible. Body safety is a known strategy to keep people safe from sexual abuse.
Why is this chapter in the eBook for adults?
Because the research shows us that a lot of adults have not had enough sexual health education. The last blog discussed the chapter about healthy relationships. Part of healthy relationships is knowing that boundaries are healthy and our private parts are not owned by our partners.
When it comes to people with disabilities, particularly those that require a lot of hands on personal care, they need to know that they have a right to privacy with their body and need to be given the opportunity to consent to having someone touch their body in a non sexual way.
While the chapter - Private Parts, identifies the anatomy on both female and male bodies, it also shows clear boundaries required with our bodies. Bringing consent back into focus of when we need to ask for consent, when we can give consent and what if we do not want to consent.
My life, My Body: Sex Ed Made Easy is available now to download onto a phone, iPad or tablet device. Not only does it make comprehensive sexual health education easy, it also supports the reader to have privacy while learning.
